History of Moscow Club of Collectors of Pocket Calendars

      Collecting of calendars has a great history. It is known, that such collections existed in Russia in the beginning XX of century. But for past century three wars have passed through our country, and practically any old collection was not kept. As the collection of calendars cannot be considered, as an investment of the capital, as the postage stamps or coins.
      The first collectors of pocket calendars have appeared in USSR in 60-th years. The collectors was slightly, and they were going, as a rule, together with other collectors.
      In 1984 in Moscow was created and first is lawfully registered in Russia Club of the collectors of pocket calendars. Soon such clubs have appeared in many other cities USSR.
      Our club together with the country has gone through also rises and reductions of interest to a collecting, but also now each Sunday the colleague and the friends - collectors are going together to exchange opinions, news and calendars, to look someone's collections or to arrange an exhibition. Our collectors many times participated in various exhibitions of the collectors, and repeatedly became the winners, were awarded with medals and prizes.
Besides on tradition, from time to time exhibitions are arranged specially only for the members of club, that, in opinion of the collectors, most difficult, - you see the collectors well know the price of each rarity, and to surprise them it is possible only unexpected sight on the selection of an exhibition material or original finds.
      Some collectors collect all pocket calendars, some only calendars of Russia. But the majority collects thematic collections. Automobile and railway transportation, sea and river transport, calendars of banks and insurance companies, calendars with the image of the women and flowers, animals and plants. Calendars of the tourist and trade companies, calendars with monuments of architecture and with churches, calendars with pictures of the known artists and simply beautiful calendars. In our club are going sometimes up to 70 people. Some of them come from the next cities. Quite often the visitors come to us from far cities or from other countries. We are glad to see each visitor.

      The largest collections in Moscow are a collection of Alexander Liders , numbering about 230 000 calendars of all world, which is, apparently, the largest collection of the world, and also collection of Dmitry Maljawin, in which is about 100 000 calendars, in basic USSR and Russia.
      The oldest pocket calendar (1886) is in a collection of  Sofia Simonova (the sheets - calendars as a playcard mean, the oldest calendar as a small book for (1871) is in St.-Petersburg in the collection of Andrey Mikhailov).
